Dermott Hugh Brereton

Dermott Hugh Brereton, nicknamed The Kid, played most of his 211 game career (189 games and 427 goals) in the centre half forward position at the Hawthorn Football Club. Dermott played in 5 day and night premiership sides, won the club Best and Fairest in 1985, played State of Origin for Victoria 9 times and made the All-Australian team on 3 occassions.

Brereton was inducted into the Hawthorn Team of the Century, as well as the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Perhaps the most memorable moment of his career was the 1989 VFL Grand Final. In one of the toughest grand finals in the league's history, Brereton was lined up at the centre bounce by Geelong Football Club's Mark Yeates and hit with a solid shirtfront. Severely winded and concussed, he was attended to by trainers, he began to vomit before jogging back into the play. Only minutes later in the game, he marked and kicked an inspirational goal. He would finish with three goals in a game that Hawthorn would win by six points.

Brereton was well known for his ability to park his Ferrari wherever he wanted, particularly right outside nightclubs, and now it is common knowledge that the best possible parking space at any venue is called a "Dermie".
Dermott’s media career includes a number of television and radio engagements. Including working with the likes of Ernie Sigley on radio, commentating AFL games with the legendary Malcolm Blight and currently Dermott is a presenter on the travel show Getaway.

Motivational Talk for Senior Management - June 2010

"It was a smaller crowd of senior management -  motivational speaking.
Some sporting speakers find it very hard to relate their sporting stories &  professional experiences
to business applications for one of these types of functions - they get too caught up in the sporting side.
Not the case at all with Dermott, he was extremely good at being able to relate the very 2 easily.

I would rate him very highly as a speaker,  I would say he is up there with the best of them,  I am very happy with how it all went."
