Aussie Joe Bugner


Joe had only 16 fights as an amateur before turning professional at the tender age of 17.

As the former International Heavyweight Boxing Champion he was undefeated European, British, and Commonwealth Champion, retaining the three titles for nine consecutive years. Joe has won and defended the Australian and PABA titles three times and won the 'WBF' version of the heavyweight crown in 1998, by defeating James "Bonecrusher" Smith. At the age of 49 years and a 110 days, it made him the oldest ever boxer to hold a world championship belt.

Joe is the only fighter to have gone the distance twice with the great Muhammad Ali (15 rounds) in Las Vegas and Malaysia. Joe and Ali have remained very close friends over the years.

Joe and Marlene Bugner moved to Australia in 1986 whereby Joe was instantly nicknamed Aussie Joe and the couple went about opening a vineyard.

Joe has appeared in 24 movies all over the world and numerous TV shows, apart from his work with Russell Crowe on the set of ‘Cinderella Man’ his other latest movie being the very popular “Getting Square” starring Gary Sweet, David Wenham and Tomothy Spall.

Joe’s abundance of talent has now seen him turn his hand to art of which he sell his work to some of Australia’s leading businessmen.
